A frozen evaporator coil or an iced-over refrigerant line has exactly two root causes: not enough warm air moving across the coil, or not enough refrigerant in the system. Everything else is a symptom of one of those two.
The urgent part is what you do in the next ten minutes. Liquid refrigerant that doesn't boil off in a frozen coil returns to the compressor as a liquid — and compressors are built to compress gas, not liquid. That's how a clogged filter turns into the most expensive repair on the system.
