Terrell has a longer history than most of the metroplex — it was a working railroad town well before the suburbs reached it, and the neighborhoods around the historic downtown still have the housing stock to prove it. Homes from the 1900s through the 1940s are ordinary here, not rare.
At the same time the west side of Terrell is filling in with new construction along Highway 80 and I-20 as Forney's growth pushes east. So we bring different expectations to a Terrell call than to almost anywhere else we work: the address tells us whether we're looking at a retrofit system in a house that predates central air, or a ten-year-old builder package.
Houses built around Terrell's downtown were designed for high ceilings, deep porches, and cross-ventilation — not for ductwork. Central air arrived decades later and got retrofitted into whatever space was available, usually a closet, an attic knee space, or a crawl space that was never meant to carry it.
The result is systems fighting their own installation. Undersized returns, duct squeezed through joist bays, and long runs to add-on rooms are the norm.
